Public Safety Ministry Raises Foot-and-Mouth Disease Alert Level

The Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency says pigs at a farm in Gimje, North Jeolla Province have tested positive for foot-and-mouth disease (FMD).

Quarantine officials were promptly deployed to the infected farm which had about 700 pigs. The officials have culled the pigs and restricted the passage of people and cattle in and out of the farm.

The farm reported the presumed case on Monday.

The Ministry of Public Safety and Security has raised its foot-and-mouth disease alert level by a notch from "attention” to “caution.”
