Samsung Electronics has reached a settlement on the eight-year conflict with those who were diagnosed with leukemia while working at the company’s semiconductor factories.
Representatives of the company, families of leukemia patients, and Banolim, a group for workers at semiconductor factories will sign the settlement on Tuesday in Seoul.
An arbitration committee said on Monday in a news release that the three sides reached an agreement on prevention measures, one of the three issues for arbitration along with apology and compensation.
However, Banolim, one of the three parties of the settlement, said that they have reached settlement on just one part, and the issues of apology and compensation have not been resolved.
Samsung Electronics said that it started offering compensation in September last year, and about 150 employees at its semiconductor factories and affiliates applied for compensation. More than 100 of them reportedly received compensation.
