The government said Thursday that it will limit the passage of South Koreans into the Gaeseong Industrial Complex in North Korea.
A Unification Ministry official said Seoul seriously regards the state of inter-Korean relations following the North’s fourth nuclear test.
The official said Seoul will place top priority on guaranteeing the safety of South Koreans in the North and will take necessary measures.
The government will only allow the entry of South Koreans whose work at the industrial park is directly related to production activities. It will not allow service-related officials or inspection personnel to enter the complex.
The government made a similar move in 2013 when the North carried out its third nuclear test, citing safety concerns.
The ministry official also said that for the time being, private-level exchanges between the two Koreas as well as projects on providing aid to the North are expected to be put off.
