Seoul Draws Record Amount of Foreign Direct Investment

Seoul city attracted a record amount of foreign direct investment (FDI) last year on the back of a surging Chinese capital inflow.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government said Tuesday that its FDI jumped 54-point-seven percent from 2014 to about eight-point-49 billion U.S. dollars last year, breaking the previous record of seven-point-16 billion U.S. dollars set in 2005.

The capital city accounted for 41-point-six percent of the total foreign direct investment attracted by South Korea last year.

With China acquiring more South Korean companies, Chinese investment surged more than two-thousand percent year-on-year in 2015.
