Gov't Keeps Eye on Impact of Kim's Death

The government said Wednesday that there is a need to watch how the death of North Korea’s Workers’ Party Secretary Kim Yang-gon will affect inter-Korean ties.

Unification Ministry Spokesman Jeong Joon-hee told reporters that it is hard to conclude what impact Kim’s death will bring to South-North relations.

He only said that there is a need to keep a close eye on possible effects given that Kim had handled South Korea-related affairs.

Jeong noted that it was the first time that the North has publicly unveiled the cause of a senior official's death under the Kim Jong-un regime.

The North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency reported that Kim died in a car accident at 6:15 a.m. on Tuesday. He was 73 years old.
