A North Korean official said Thursday the two Koreas could field a unified team for next year's Summer Olympics if South Korea's bid to host the 2010 Winter Games is successful.
Jang Ung, a North Korean member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), told a news conference in Madrid that "all possibilities are open" if the South Korean city of Pyeongchang is selected to host the Games.
He noted that South and North Korea had been able to arrange the joint entry of their teams at the Sydney Olympics, Busan Asian Games and the Aomori Winter Asian Games.
Jang added that if Pyeongchang is selected as the host city, the North would do its best to enter South and North Korea in the Athens Summer Olympics next year as a unified team.
Also present at the news conference was South Korea's IOC member Kim Un-yong. Both Jang and Kim are attending an IOC executive committee meeting.
