S. Korea's National Wealth Increases 36% in 5 Years

South Korea’s national wealth increased about 40 percent between 2009 and 2013.
 
According to the national balance sheet produced by the Bank of Korea and Statistics Korea, the nation’s net assets posted eleven quadrillion 39 trillion won as of the end of 2013, up 36 percent from eight quadrillion 118 trillion won as of the end of 2008.
 
The net assets were seven-point-four times the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2008, while they were seven-point-seven times in 2013.
 
Net assets in the private sector reached seven quadrillion 945 trillion won, accounting for 72 percent of the national wealth.
 
Of the net assets of households, non-financial assets such as land and buildings made up 77 percent in 2013, down from 82 percent in 2008, while the proportion of financial assets increased from 18 percent to 23 percent over the period.
