BOK Expects Limited Impact from US Rate Hike

The Bank of Korea says the U.S interest rate hike will have a limited impact on the South Korean financial market.

The conclusion was made during an economists’ meeting at the central bank Thursday, which analyzed major trends in financial markets, including the U.S. Federal Reserve’s rate hike decision.

The BOK said the U.S. rate increase has long been predicted and already factored into international financial markets.

The bank also said that U.S. Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen’s comment that interest rates will rise gradually will also ease the impact.

The BOK admitted, however, that an indirect impact on South Korea is possible due to the financial uneasiness the move will trigger in emerging markets, vowing to closely watch international markets.
