A Seoul official Wednesday dismissed reports that North Korea postponed a major communist party congress, saying there have been no indications from the regime.
The official said the South Korean government has acquired no intelligence about a postponement, adding that the North does not announce such important decisions in news reports.
Earlier in the day, the North’s Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on a recent field inspection by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un of a catfish farm in Samchon County.
KCNA said Kim directed officials to finish a project to modernize the catfish farm by October 10 of next year, when the party’s next congress is to be held.
Some South Korean news agency interpreted it to mean the congress would be held on October 10, not in May.
In October of this year, the North announced that the 7th Congress of the Workers’ Party would be held in early May of next year.
