North Korean media say that the North and Russia have signed an agreement to cooperate on supplying power.

The North's Korean Central Television said the signing ceremony Friday at the People's Palace of Culture in Pyongyang was attended by the North's minister of electric power industry and Russia's vice energy minister.

The agreement is seen as the legal foundation for Russia to provide electricity to the North's Rason special economic zone.

The two countries are currently carrying out a project to build power transmission lines connecting the North Korean city of Rason and Russia's Maritime Province. The power lines will be used for power plants in the Maritime Province to supply power to North Korea.
