Two Koreas to Hold Vice-Ministerial Talks Friday

South and North Korea will hold vice-ministerial talks at the North's Gaeseong Industrial Complex Friday morning.

The two sides will discuss a fundamental solution to the issue of families separated by the Korean War and resuming South Korean tours to the North's Mount Geumgang resort.

The Friday talks will be led by three officials from each side. Vice Unification Minister Hwang Boo-gi is heading the South's delegation while the North's chief delegate is Jon Jong-su, vice director of the secretariat of the North's Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea.

The South Korean delegates will leave Seoul at around 8 a.m. to begin the inter-Korean meeting at the Gaeseong complex at 10:30 a.m.

Following lunch held separately, the two sides will resume talks at 2:30 p.m. as a general or a chief delegates' meeting.

Discussions could be tough as the agenda has not been coordinated beforehand and the two Koreas have different priorities. Seoul puts the separated families issue first while Pyongyang wants Mount Geumgang tours to be resumed.

Talks between the two governments have been held four times under the Park Geun-hye administration to discuss specific matters.

This will be the first time regular talks have been held to comprehensively discuss pending concerns.
