Science Ministry to Develop Diagnostic Kit for High-Risk Viruses

The government plans to develop diagnostic technologies to detect high-risk infectious viruses that could threaten South Korea in near future.

The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning said Thursday that it will spend six billion won by 2019 to develop a medical kit to detect high-risk infectious viruses that have yet to break out in the nation.

The ministry said the detection kit will be put to practical use after its efficacy is tested through international cooperation.

The ministry plans to work first on the development of diagnostic kits for dengue fever, yellow fever, and the Ebola virus, with the help of research institutes in Vietnam, the Philippines and Thailand.
