South Korea's overseas assets rose to a record high in the third quarter.

The Bank of Korea said Monday that the country's external assets stood at 722 billion dollars as of the end of September, up five-point-one billion dollars from three months ago.

During the same period, South Korea's foreign debt declined 14-point-six billion dollars to 409-point-one billion.

The central bank said short-term debt fell due to repayments by banks. Long-term debt dropped as foreigners invested less in domestic securities such as government bonds.
