The Incheon Metropolitan City will seek to have 22 geological sites in the Baengnyeong Island region to be certified as national geoparks.

The 22 spots include famed island sights, such as a harbor and coast area on Baengnyeong Island, a coastal dune on Daecheong Island, and a columnar jointing on Socheong Island.

The city of Incheon will carry out a feasibility test and basic academic research, based on which it will apply for the state geopark certification with the government around 2017.

Since the certification system was introduced in 2012, six regional spheres in the country have been designated as national geopark zones.
