N. Korea Calls for End to Koreas' Confrontation in Political Systems

North Korea says Seoul and Pyongyang should end their history of political confrontation ahead of next week’s high-level talks

The Rodong Sinmun said in a commentary Friday that ending confrontation is a key condition that must be met to improve South-North ties.

The official newspaper of the North’s ruling Workers’ Party added that such confrontation hampers the reconciliation and unity of the Korean people.

The paper also called the conflict an act of treason that builds walls of distrust between the two countries.

The paper then stressed that the upcoming inter-Korean vice-ministerial talks will provide an important opportunity for the two Koreas to ease tensions and improve ties.

The high-level talks will open next Friday at the North’s border city of Gaeseong.
