Written: 2015-12-03 18:00:15Updated: 2015-12-03 18:10:43

South Korea’s Ulleung and Heuksan islands will house airports that can accommodate smaller planes.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said it will push for the project in earnest, with preliminary procedures and a feasibility study complete.

The ministry plans to finish the designing by late next year and begin construction in early 2017. Hueksan Airport will open in 2020 and Ulleung Airport in 2021.

With one-thousand-20-meter airstrips, they will become South Korea’s first small airports in which 50-seat planes can land, taxi and take off.
