S. Korean Catholic Bishops Visit N. Korea

A group of South Korean Catholic bishops departed for North Korea on Tuesday to discuss promoting cooperation among Catholics of the two Koreas.

The 17-member delegation led by Archbishop Kim Hee-joong plans to visit the North through China from Tuesday to Friday.

During the four-day trip, the delegation will discuss ways to realize exchanges between Catholics of the two Koreas and to support repair work for Changchung Cathedral in Pyongyang, the sole Catholic church in North Korea.

The delegation will also seek a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Other religious groups in South Korea are also set to visit the North’s border city of Gaeseong this week to discuss possible exchange programs with their North Korean counterparts.
