S. Korea's Satellite Arirang 3A to Provide Commercial Service

South Korea’s science satellite launched in March will provide commercial services from next month.

The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning said on Monday that the Korea Multipurpose Satellite 3A, or Arirang 3A, equipped with powerful optical telescopes will provide clear images of any object on the Earth’s surface larger than 55 centimeters in diameter.

With temperature-sensitive infrared sensors on board, the satellite can also monitor changes on the Earth’s surface day and night.

Satellite images provided by Arirang 3A will be used for projects that match public interests, like those that analyze damages from forest fires and environmental pollution.

The nation will also sell the images in the commercial satellite imagery market.
