Countries Likely to Sign TPP in New Zealand in February

Countries participating in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) will likely sign the agreement in early February at a general meeting in New Zealand.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's Assistant Minister Woo Tae-hee said in a regular briefing that TPP member countries will hold a meeting in New Zealand in the first week of December to complete legal reviews.

Woo added the countries are also discussing signing the TPP agreement in New Zealand around February 4.

South Korea is currently reviewing the multinational trade deal, after the full text of the agreement was disclosed on October 5.

Woo also noted South Korea and China made a government-level promise to ratify their free trade agreement by the end of November. He said the trade pact can go into effect this year only when the National Assembly ratifies it on Monday.
