Unification Ministry Wishes for Successful Border Talks

The Ministry of Unification said it will try to reach an amicable agreement with North Korea during working-level inter-Korean talks.

The two sides are meeting at the border Thursday. Ministry Spokesman Jeong Joon-hee said the success of the meeting would be the first step to implementing the August 25 agreement.

Jeong said the two Koreas will discuss laying the groundwork for higher-level talks, including the level of officials to attend, the agenda and schedule.

The spokesman added that according to South Korea’s National Intelligence Service, two North Korea officials were recently honored for suspending the South Korea’s anti-North Korea propaganda broadcasts at the border.

Jeong said if that’s true, it would indicate Pyongyang is desperate to promote the August 25 agreement as a victory for the North .
