Snow Falls in Seoul, High Chances for More

Seoul saw its first snowfall of the cold season early Wednesday, though the precipitation was more a slushy mix of rain and snow.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said there could be more Wednesday as receding low pressure across the country brings a 60 to 90 percent chance of rain or snow.

Chances for more snow in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province and South and North Gyeongsang Provinces will fade by nightfall.

Snow will also fall in the mountains of Gangwon Province on Wednesday, where an advisory has been issued against heavy snow. Gangwon Province along the east coast and mountains in northeast North Gyeongsang Province could also get hit by heavy snow.

Meteorologists expect five to 15 centimeters of snow in the mountains of Gangwon Province by Thursday, though some regions could see as much as 20 centimeters.

They also predict two to seven centimeters in the mountains of North Gyeongsang Province and along the eastern coast of Gangwon Province. About one to three centimeters could pile up in west Gangwon Province.

The weather agency said the temperature in Seoul could drop as low as negative five degrees Celsius Thursday morning as continental high pressure expands.
