KT Unveils Drone-Based LTE Service

Major South Korean telecom provider KT has unveiled a drone-based disaster emergency communications service.

During the announcement of a plan to establish a disaster emergency communications network on Tuesday, KT demonstrated the disaster communications service “drone LTE” in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province, flying drones carrying key communications equipment.

“The drone LTE,” developed by KT, serves as a flying mobile communication base station in areas where communication is cut off due to natural disasters.

Under the service, five drones will be deployed above a disaster area simultaneously and covering an area the size of Yeouido.
