Choi: S. Korea Will Easily Post Growth in 3% Range in 2016

Finance Minister Choi Kyung-hwan said Friday that South Korea’s economy will easily be able to post growth in the three percent range next year if the current recovery in domestic demand continues on to 2016.

Choi made the remark at the Korea Press Center in Seoul during a meeting with heads of key research institutes.

Choi said it would be difficult to expect a clear improvement in the global economy next year amid growing uncertainty resulting from unexpected terrorist attacks.

He then vowed to have the public sector prime the pump in order to continue the trend of recovery in the nation’s economy, with the main focus on domestic demand.

Choi also noted that next year is the final year to carry out a three-year economic reform plan pushed by the Park Geun-hye administration, adding that the government will increase efforts to achieve the plan’s key projects so the public will feel the effects.

The government is set to unveil the direction of its economic policies for next year around mid-December after collecting opinions.
