S. Korea Urges North to Accept Calls for Dialogue

South Korea says the North should respond to Seoul's proposals for dialogue if it truly wants to improve relations.

A Ministry of Unification official said Thursday that the government has been consistent in its position that it seeks to improve inter-Korean relations by building trust through dialogue and cooperation, in accordance with the August 25 inter-Korean accord.

The official added that despite Seoul's efforts, authorities from the South and North have not held talks as Pyongyang has rejected offers for dialogue. The official said the North mustn't avoid responsibility, but rather accept the offer.

The North’s Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland told Pyongyang state media on Wednesday that the South Korean government should show its willingness to improve relations not through words, but actions, blaming Seoul for the stalled talks.
