Insurance for Luxury Cars to Surge up to 15% from 2016

Insurance fees on luxury import and domestic cars may grow as much as 15 percent starting next year.

The Financial Services Commission and indemnity insurance industries devised ways to make more rational auto insurance bills related to high-end vehicles.

Under the measures, insurance on expensive cars will grow between three and 15 percent from 2016.

As a result, if the average repair costs for a particular vehicle exceed one-and-half times the repair costs of overall cars, the car owners will have to pay an additional 15 percent in insurance.

The move will affect eight domestic high-end cars, including Hyundai Motor Company’s Equus and 38 foreign brands, including BMW’s 7 series.
