N. Korea Unveils Detailed Plans for Rason Special Economic Zone

North Korea on Wednesday unveiled in detail what it has in store for a special economic zone in the border city of Rason, which was formerly known as Rajin and Sonbong.
 
On a propaganda Web site, the North posted names of eight local firms that will operate in the special economic zone and which will receive foreign investment.
 
It made the disclosure as it revealed some 50 regulations related to investment in the Rason economic zone.
 
The North also disclosed plans to develop ten tourist attractions within the economic zone, including an international convention center in Sinhae, an ecotourism spot in Bipa Island and a tourist resort in Haesanggeum.
 
The North also plans to develop nine industrial districts in the economic zone, including a logistics and industrial center in Rajin.
 
The North said that transfer tax, business tax and individual income tax will be imposed in the Rason zone.
