Electronic Entry System in Gaeseong to Display Both Korean Times

An electronic entry system for those entering the Gaeseong Industrial Complex will display both South Korean and North Korean times.

According to the Ministry of Unification Wednesday, the Gaeseong Industrial District Foundation will commission a subcontractor to update the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system at the Custom, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) office in the South.

A ministry official said the update will enable the system to display both Korea Standard Time and Pyongyang Time, adding that the update will be completed by the end of this year.

The ministry has recorded both Seoul and Pyongyang time on paperwork for several months.

In August, North Korea set itself a new time zone by pushing back the clock half an hour from Korea Standard Time, in celebration of the 70th anniversary of Korean independence from Japanese colonial rule.
