Unification Ministry: No Word on UN Chief Visiting N. Korea

The Ministry of Unification says it was yet to hear from the United Nations regarding UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's reported plan to visit North Korea.

Unification Minister Spokesman Jeong Joon-hee made the statement during a regular media briefing Monday, adding that Seoul had no comment for the moment on the possibility of Ban’s visit.

Jeong said Ban, a South Korean national, falls into the category of a citizen residing in a foreign country under the inter-Korean exchange law and must report to the ministry no less than three days before a departure for the North or 10 days upon returning.

Early on Monday, Yonhap News Agency quoted a UN source who said Ban will visit the North this week.
