A third pilot shipment of the Rajin-Khasan logistics project will be carried out for 14 days starting from next Tuesday.
The Rajin-Khasan logistics project involves transporting black coal from Russia’s Khasan to the North’s Rajin Port via a 54-kilometer railway and then loading the coal onto cargo ships at Rajin Port and delivering it to South Korea.
A Unification Ministry official said Friday that with the latest shipment, 120-thousand tons of Russian soft coal will enter Gwangyang and Pohang Port and ten containers will enter Busan Port.
The official said a delegation of 20 people, including representatives from POSCO, Hyundai Merchant Marine, the Korea Railroad Corporation and the government will visit Rajin and Sonbong in the North between Tuesday and Friday next week to carry out on-site inspections.
The delegation plans to inspect whether two ships can dock at Rajin Port at the same time and will also check out loading and unloading efforts of containers.
The first pilot shipment of the Rajin-Khasan logistics project was carried out last November and the second shipment this April.
