Statistics Korea found that this year’s rice production grew by more than 80-thousand tons compared to last year.
According to the statistics agency, some four-point-three million tons of rice was produced this year.
That’s up 86-thousand tons, or two percent, from last year and up 362-thousand tons compared with an average year.
Rice production per ten hectares stood at 542 kilograms, up four-point-two percent from a year ago.
The statistics agency said rice production saw such growth thanks to favorable weather conditions, increased sunshine and little damage from disease, insects or typhoons.
The agency also found that the size of land where rice is cultivated shrank two percent from a year ago to 799-thousand hectares. The agency said the decline came due to construction of buildings, land development and cultivation of field crops.
