Processed Agricultural Exports to FTA Partners Sharply Increase

A government report shows that the volume of South Korean processed agricultural products exported to the country’s free trade partners is quickly growing.

The Korea Customs Service said Wednesday that 840 million dollars in processed agricultural goods were exported to FTA partners from January to September. The figure is 15-point-five percent higher than the same period a year ago.

This year is on track to become the fourth consecutive year that the annual growth of processed agricultural exports to those countries surpasses 10 percent, following 11-point-nine percent last year, 11-point-four percent in 2013 and 17-point-one percent in 2012.

By destination, exports to Australia jumped 66-point-eight percent on-year during the nine months, followed by exports to the European Union and the U.S., which grew 32 percent and 15 percent, respectively.

On the other hand, exports of processed agricultural products have decreased by one-point-one percent in the same period to countries with which the South Korean parliament has yet to ratify an FTA.
