Fruits Sweeter than Last Year

This year's autumn fruits are sweeter than last year despite the severe drought due to a good deal of sunshine and as a typhoon didn't reach South Korea.

The Korea Rural Economic Institute's Agricultural Outlook Center said Tuesday that a study of sample farms on October 30 revealed that the quality of fruits in South Korea is better than last year.

Almost 80 percent of Fuji apples were sweeter than last year while around 65 percent had better colors.

Less than one percent of Fuji apples were less sweet than last year.

More than 93 percent of tangerines grown outdoors, which will begin to be shipped this month, had a higher sugar-acid ratio than last year due to the abundant sunshine.

Persimmons and pears were also sweeter than last year.
