GE Opens Cooperation Office in Local S. Korean Gov't

General Electric (GE) opened a cooperation office in Gyeonggi Province on Monday.

The U.S. firm held an opening ceremony at Paju City Hall, attended by Paju Mayor Lee Jae-hong, GE Korea CEO Kang Sung-wook and Saenuri Party Secretary-General Hwang Jin-ha.

The opening of the cooperation office follows the adoption of a memorandum of understanding on setting up the facility. The idea was proposed by Hwang when GE Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Immelt visited South Korea last November.

GE is said to have picked Paju after assessing the city's growth potential. The U.S. firm is also said to be planning to cooperate on projects related to logistics transportation of the metropolitan area’s northern inland areas and related to resolving electricity shortages that could occur on a unified peninsula.
