ADD Claims to Have Secured 80% of AESA Radar Technology

The Agency for Defense Development (ADD) says that it has secured about 80 percent of one of four core technologies needed for the country’s KF-X fighter development program.

An ADD official told reporters on Friday in Daejeon that the agency secured 75 to 80 percent of the technology needed for the active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar.

The official, however, did not disclose how the figure was calculated, citing security reasons.

The AESA radar is essential equipment that helps a pilot identify friend or foe in battle and finds targets on the ground.

The four core technologies are the AESA radar, infrared search and track (IRST), electronic optics targeting pod (EOTGP) and radio frequency (RF) jammer.
