An evaluation of South Korea's top 20 conglomerate groups has found that their corporate governance is below a passing grade.

The Korea Corporate Governance Service said Friday that the average score of the groups was 25-point-nine out of 100.

Hanjin scored the lowest at 16-point-eight as the holding company grants a large amount of credit to its subsidiaries and has a low dividend rate.

Hyosung, Hyundai, Daelim and Kumho Asiana also had low scores.

Doosan had the highest score at 40-point-six for providing an appropriate level of shareholder protection.
