Government Quota to Require Hiring People with Disabilities

Government ministries will be required to hire a certain number of people with disabilities beginning in 2020.

The Ministry of Strategy and Finance discussed the matter at a meeting on Friday.

Currently, only organizations with more than 100 employees are required to pay a fine if they don't fulfill a government-mandated quota to hire people with disabilities. But from 2020, central and local governments will also be subject to the quota.

The new rule will go into effect in January 2020 considering preparation time.

The finance ministry said it expects the new rule to raise fairness with civilian organizations and to increase the opportunity for people with disabilities to work in government ministries.
