The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport says it will determine whether it should reexamine the fuel efficiency of Volkswagen cars following a Ministry of Environment investigation of irregularities in CO2 levels of some models.
After Volkswagen admitted the irregularities on Tuesday, a land ministry official said Thursday that it made an unofficial request to Volkswagen to disclose which models were affected.
The official said experts under the Land Ministry will jointly participate in the Environment Ministry inspection.
The investigation will determine whether Volkswagen rigged emissions and analyze the emissions correlation to fuel efficiency. The Land Ministry will then make a decision on whether it should reexamine Volkswagen's fuel usage.
The Environment Ministry is in charge of car emissions while the Land Ministry is in charge of fuel consumption and safety.
