S. Korea Top OECD in Treatment Results for Cancer, Stroke

Data shows that South Korea ranks at the top among Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) member states in terms of treatment outcomes for colorectal cancer, uterus cancer and strokes.

The Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service in Seoul said it analyzed OECD data on medical performance of member countries in 2013.

South Korea was the highest in the OECD in cancer patients' five-year survival rate compared to a healthy person. The rate was 70-point-nine percent for colorectal cancer patients and 77-point-eight percent for patients suffering from cervical cancer.

Also, the case fatality rate of hospitalized stroke patients 45 and older was three-point-two percent, representing a commendable level of stroke treatment among OECD members.

However, the hospitalization rate for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease stood at 310-point-six patients per 100-thousand people, higher than the OECD average of 242.

Hospitalization rate for diabetes was nearly double the OECD average at 310-point-seven patients per 100-thousand people.
