Consumer Prices Post Steepest Growth in 11 Months

The nation's consumer prices posted their highest growth in eleven months led by higher prices in agricultural and fishery goods and public service charges.

Statistics Korea said Tuesday that consumer prices in October grew zero-point-nine percent year-on-year to record growth of below one percent for the eleventh straight month.

Consumer price growth in October, however, is the highest since November last year when growth was in the negative territory.

Last month, agro-livestock and fishery prices rose three percent from last year while onion prices soared 91 percent, garlic prices 34 percent and beef prices 12 percent.

Service sector fees also rose more than two percent across the board with subway fares rising 15-point-two percent, bus fares nine percent and home rental fees four percent.

Meanwhile, prices for industrial products were down zero-point-three percent on-year last month as global oil costs remain low. Electricity, water and gas fees also fell seven-point-two percent.
