South Korea and China have adopted a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cooperation related to consumer protection after cases of consumer damages grew in the process of e-commerce between the two countries.

South Korea’s Fair Trade Commission and China’s State Administration for Industry and Commerce adopted the MOU.

The two institutes agreed to devise ways to cooperate on protecting consumers in e-commerce and exchange data on laws and regulations related to consumers.

Between 2009 and May of last year, e-commerce imports from China amounted to 218-and-a-half billion won, second only to the U.S.

The Fair Trade Commission said the latest agreement has laid the foundation to resolve consumer damages and will help South Korean companies operate in China.
