Gov't Selects Companies, Venues for Pilot Drone Project

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said Friday that it has selected 15 organizations and four locations as subjects and venues of a state pilot project aimed at fostering a local drone industry.

CJ Korea Express, a logistics company, as well as Korean Air, the Korea Forest Service and Kyungpook National University were among the 15 organizations commissioned to lead government drone experiments.

The four venues are Jangsapo, Jung-dong in Busan, Guji-myeon in Dalseong County of Daegu, Deokpo-ri in Yeongwol County of Gangwon Province and Goso-ri in Goheung County of South Jeolla Province.

The ministry plans to test expanding drone usages to land surveys, forest conservation, preventing natural disasters and logistics.

It also hopes to use the test in determining the safety standards necessary for the commercialization of drones.
