The government has decided to spend an additional nine trillion won in the fourth quarter to maintain the momentum of recovery in domestic consumption.
The decision was announced on Tuesday after a meeting involving the chiefs of economy-related ministries in which they vowed to focus efforts to stimulate domestic consumption.
The central government will raise the fiscal spending target by a half of a percentage point, increasing its fiscal spending by one-point-six trillion won.
Provincial governments will also be encouraged to take measures in order to boost fiscal spending by six-point-one trillion won.
In addition, the government will have the state-run National Health Insurance Corporation pay clinics and hospitals about one trillion won within the year, as opposed to the usual payment early in the new year, to compensate them for insurance coverage provided to patients.
