Removal of Remaining Oil from Sewol Completed

The removal of remaining oil from the sunken Sewol ferry has been completed about 40 days after the salvage operation started.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said Monday that 937 kiloliters of materials mixed with oils were removed from the vessel as of Sunday, adding the accurate amount of oil will be confirmed by a waste disposal company.

The ministry said that the salvage work was delayed due to three typhoons, but the Chinese consortium in charge of the work will continue to enclose all openings of the ship with nets to prevent losing any bodies that may remain inside.
