Most Regions in S. Korea Seeing Worst Drought in 42 Years

South Korea’s central region and surrounding areas are seeing their worst drought in 42 years.

The Korea Meteorological Administration analyzed this year's cumulative precipitation across the country and found that regions excluding South Jeolla Province and South Gyeongsang Province saw the smallest amount of rainfall since 1973 when systematic weather observations first began in the country.

The weather agency said the cumulative precipitation in all regions excluding South Jeolla Province and South Gyeongsang Province currently stands at half of the average amount of rainfall posted in previous years.

The cumulative rainfall in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province stood at 42 percent of previous years’ precipitation and that of South Chungcheong Province and western Gangwon Province stood at 50 percent of previous years’ rainfall.
