OECD Science Forum in Daejeon Draws to Close

The OECD Ministerial Meeting Daejeon 2015, World Science & Technology Forum, dubbed the "world science summit," ended its five-day run in South Korea on Friday.

The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning said the ministerial meeting ended Friday at the Daejeon Convention Center with a forum on South Korea's science and technology held as the final event.

In the Daejeon Declaration, participants agreed that science, technology and innovation will provide new investment opportunities, increase employment productivity and economic growth, and improve the quality of life for mankind.

They also agreed that the advancement of technological convergence such as in the Internet of Things, 3D printing and nanotechnology has fundamentally changed existing production methods, and forecast a next-generation production revolution.

Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning Choi Yang-hee said the global science summit was very meaningful in that host country and chair country South Korea led the adoption of the Daejeon Declaration and provided a milestone for the next ten years in the science and technology fields worldwide.

Some 38-hundred officials and delegates from 75 countries including member states of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) attended this year's summit, where they sought solutions to global challenges and sustainable economic growth.
