Science ministers from members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) adopted a joint declaration in South Korea Wednesday on policy directions for science and technology over the next 10 years.
The Daejeon Declaration, adopted at the end of the OECD Ministerial Meeting Daejeon 2015, touted scientific and technological innovation as key to solving global issues, adding that it will lead to new investment opportunities, economic growth and enhanced quality of life.
The declaration also noted that cutting-edge convergence technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and nanotechnology will bring fundamental change to production methods.
Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning Choi Yang-hee told a wrap-up press conference Wednesday that the Daejeon Declaration had helped erect a milestone for the development of science and technology around the world.
