S. Korea to Share Tech, Science with Developing Countries

Anchor: An international gathering of science ministers and experts opened in South Korea for a five-day run on Monday. Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn and Science Minister Choi Yang-hee vowed that South Korea would actively contribute science and technology innovations to the international community and provide strong technological support for developing countries to realize economic growth.

Report: A gathering of science ministers of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) member states opened in Daejeon in central South Korea on Monday.
 
The OECD Ministerial Meeting will run for five days under the theme “creating our common future through science, technology, and innovation.”
 
The meeting is being attended by some three-thousand people, including minister-level government officials and scholars from 57 countries and 12 international organizations.
 
The event began with the World Science and Technology Forum which saw the participation of some one-thousand people.
 
In a speech at the ministerial meeting’s opening ceremony, Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn vowed that South Korea will contribute to the international community’s prosperity through its science and technology capabilities.
 
Hwang said South Korea will also provide technological support and further expand science exchanges with developing countries.
 
He said the event is significant in that it will discuss future sustainable growth through science and technology and ways for both advanced and developing countries to flourish.
 
He also said the ministerial meeting will provide the opportunity for South Korea to share its creative economy policy.
 
Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning Choi Yang-hee said at the opening ceremony that South Korea will actively contribute to the international community’s science and technology innovations. He also vowed that South Korea would provide technology so developing countries can achieve economic growth.
 
Science delegations from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are also taking part in the meeting to seek ways to use technology to narrow gaps among different regions and countries.
 
The OECD science ministerial meeting will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, with discussions focusing on making use of science and technology for mankind.
 
The key points of the meeting will be summarized in the "Daejeon Declaration" on Wednesday. South Korea's science ministry said the declaration will seek to find "strong," "sustainable" and "inclusive" global growth through science and technology.
