KOTRA: Fourth Quarter Expected to See Continued Slump in Exports

The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency forecast that South Korea’s exports will continue to see a slump in the fourth quarter.

The trade agency projected on Friday that the nation’s Export Leading Indicator (ELI) stood at 48-point-six for the fourth quarter, down three-point-three points from the previous quarter. A reading below 50 signifies on-quarter exports are expected to decline.

The nation’s ELI slipped below 50 for the second quarter for the first time since the indicator began to be used in 2009. The projection for the fourth quarter marks the second time for the figure to drop below 50.

By regions, the nation’s ELI fell for all areas except for Europe.

The agency’s latest projection was produced after surveying roughly two-thousand-170 buyers abroad and employees of trading companies stationed abroad between October first and 14th.
