Sales at Department Stores Jump Nearly 25% During Black Friday

The country’s leading department stores participating in the Black Friday sales event have reported an increase of about 25 percent in sales.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said Wednesday that department stores Shinsegae, Lotte and Hyundai saw sales jump 24-point-seven percent year-on-year from October 1 to Sunday.

Sales at local home shopping malls and Internet duty-free shops also soared 26-point-seven percent during the cited period.

According to the Small and Medium Business Administration’s survey on 50 traditional markets taking part in the nationwide sales campaign, 78 percent said they witnessed growth of over ten percent in sales compared to last year.
