Koreas Hold Exhibition of Relics

Concurrent exhibitions of relics excavated at the site of a royal palace will be held in Seoul and Gaeseong, North Korea.

The National Palace Museum of Korea in Seoul on Tuesday held an opening ceremony for the exhibition, which will run through November 6, while Koryo Songgyungwan University in the North’s Gaeseong will hold the exhibition from Thursday to November 15.

Scholars from the two Koreas will also conduct a forum on Thursday when the Gaeseong exhibition opens.

Since 2007, the two Koreas have worked on a joint excavation project to conserve and restore Manwoldae, the site of a royal palace that dates back to the Goryeo Kingdom in the North’s border city of Gaeseong.

South Korea’s Unification Ministry said that it is the first time that the two Koreas have displayed relics that they jointly excavated.
